Purpose and objectives

The main objective of the SN EN 17064:2019 is to establish a set of safety requirements that enhance fire prevention and firefighting capabilities in cableway installations. This standard aims to protect passengers, staff, and infrastructure from fire hazards by outlining effective fire prevention measures, operational procedures, and maintenance guidelines. By adhering to these standards, operators can effectively minimize risks associated with fire incidents, ensuring a safe environment for passenger transport.

Scope: who must comply

The SN EN 17064:2019 applies to all stakeholders involved in the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of cableway systems that transport passengers. This includes manufacturers, operators, safety inspectors, and maintenance personnel in industries such as tourism, transportation, and leisure. Companies operating in the Railway Engineering context may also find this standard relevant, as it shares similar safety principles and objectives concerning passenger transport systems.

How SN EN 17064:2019 relates to other standards

The SN EN 17064:2019 complements several related standards, including:

  • ISO 9001: Focuses on quality management systems that ensure consistent quality in service delivery.
  • EN 50126: Addresses the reliability, availability, maintainability, and safety of railway applications, providing guidance on risk management.
