EN 13445-5+A1:2024 Compliance Requirements
SN EN 13445-5+A1:2024
Unbefeuerte Druckbehälter - Teil 5: Inspektion und Prüfung
Unfired pressure vessels - Part 5: Inspection and testing
This Part of this document specifies the inspection and testing of individual and serially produced pressure vessels made of steels in accordance with EN 13445-2:2021. Special provisions for cyclic operation are given in Annex G of this Part. Special provisions for vessels or vessel parts working in the creep range are given in Annex F and Annex I of this Part. NOTE The responsibilities of parties involved in the conformity assessment procedures are given in Directive 2014/68/EU. Guidance on this can be found in CR 13445-7.
=== SECTION 1 ===
Purpose and objectives
The primary goal of EN 13445-5+A1:2024 is to establish comprehensive guidelines for the inspection and testing of unfired pressure vessels. This is aimed at ensuring the vessels' safety, reliability, and compliance with regulatory standards. The standard provides a framework for implementing non-destructive testing (NDT) methods, design reviews, and conformity assessments, thereby facilitating consistent quality assurance practices across the industry. By adhering to these guidelines, organizations can minimize risks associated with pressure vessel operations, ensuring both compliance and safety in their processes.
=== SECTION 2 ===
Scope: who must comply
EN 13445-5+A1:2024 applies to manufacturers, operators, and maintenance personnel involved in the lifecycle of unfired pressure vessels within various sectors. Typical industries include chemical processing, oil and gas, food and beverage, and energy production. Companies that design, manufacture, or operate pressure vessels must comply with this standard to ensure that their vessels adhere to the safety and quality benchmarks defined by the European Union. This compliance is essential not only for regulatory adherence but also for maintaining operational integrity and public safety in fluid systems applications.
=== SECTION 3 ===
How SN EN 13445-5+A1:2024 relates to other standards
This standard is closely related to several other norms:
- EN 13445-2:2021: This document outlines the design and manufacturing requirements for unfired pressure vessels, providing foundational guidelines that complement EN 13445-5+A1:2024.
- CR 13445-7: This document discusses the guidelines for the use of non-destructive testing methods, which are essential for the inspection protocols outlined in EN 13445-5+A1:2024.
- Directive 2014/68/EU: This EU directive regulates the conformity assessment procedures for pressure equipment, of which EN 13445-5+A1:2024 is a crucial component.

Revision history and current status
The SN EN 13445-5+A1:2024 is the latest revision of the standard published by CEN. The most recent updates include enhancements to the inspection methodologies and clearer guidelines on non-destructive testing methods. Changes from the previous version, EN 13445-5:2018, focus on refining the technical documentation requirements and improving clarity around conformity assessment procedures. These updates ensure that stakeholders are equipped with the most current practices to ensure safety and compliance in the inspection of unfired pressure vessels.
