Introduction to SN EN 1090-1+A1:2011
SN EN 1090-1+A1:2011
Ausführung von Stahltragwerken und Aluminiumtragwerken - Teil 1: Konformitätsnachweisverfahren für tragende Bauteile
Execution of steel structures and aluminium structures - Part 1: Requirements for conformity assessment of structural components
This European Standard specifies requirements for conformity assessment of performance characteristics for structural steel and aluminium components as well as for kits placed on the market as construction products. The conformity assessment covers the manufacturing characteristics, and where appropriate the structural design characteristics. This European Standard covers also the conformity assessment of steel components used in composite steel and concrete structures. The components can be used directly or in construction works or as structural components in the form of kits. This European Standard applies to series and non-series structural components including kits. The components can be made of hot rolled or cold formed constituent products or constituent products produced with other technologies. They may be produced of sections/profiles with various shapes, flat products (plates, sheet, strip), bars, castings, forgings made of steel and aluminium materials, unprotected or protected against corrosion by coating or other surface treatment, e.g. anodising of aluminium. This European Standard covers structural cold formed members and sheeting as defined in EN 1993-1-3 and EN 1999-1-4. This European Standard does not cover confo

What SN EN 1090-1+A1:2011 covers
The SN EN 1090-1+A1:2011 standard specifies the requirements for assessing the conformity of structural components made from steel and aluminium, focusing on their execution as construction products. It addresses both manufacturing and structural design characteristics, ensuring that components are suitable for various construction applications. The standard encompasses a wide range of products, including hot-rolled and cold-formed elements, kits, and components used in composite structures. However, it does not cover components that are not intended to be used as structural elements in construction works.

Who needs to comply with SN EN 1090-1+A1:2011
This standard is essential for a variety of stakeholders within the Construction Materials & Buildings industry. It applies to manufacturers of structural components, suppliers of construction kits, and contractors involved in the installation of these products. Both large corporations and small enterprises that produce or utilize steel and aluminium components must adhere to these standards. Additionally, regulatory bodies and quality assurance personnel play a crucial role in ensuring compliance throughout the supply chain.
=== SECTION 3 ===
Key requirements
- Manufacturing Characteristics: Components must be produced in accordance with established manufacturing standards to ensure quality and reliability.
- Load-Bearing Characteristics: The structural integrity of components must be assessed to ensure they can support the intended loads during use.
- Welding Suitability: The standard outlines criteria for the suitability of welding processes used in the fabrication of components.
- Durability and Fire Resistance: Components must demonstrate resistance to environmental factors and fire to ensure safety and longevity.
- Permissible Deviations: Specifications for acceptable variations in dimensions and shapes are defined to facilitate manufacturing and installation.
- Hazardous Substances: The use of materials containing hazardous substances must be evaluated to protect human health and the environment.
These requirements are typically audited through internal quality management systems and external certification processes to ensure compliance.

How to implement SN EN 1090-1+A1:2011
Implementing SN EN 1090-1+A1:2011 involves several critical steps. Initially, organizations should conduct a gap analysis to identify areas needing improvement in their current processes. This is followed by developing or updating documentation to align with the standard's requirements. Training personnel on the specifics of the standard is crucial to ensure everyone understands their roles in compliance. Internal audits should be performed regularly to assess adherence to the established protocols. Finally, organizations will undergo a certification audit to validate their conformity with the standard, ensuring they meet all necessary criteria.
