This document specifies requirements for the establishment of an operations control programme (OCP) to ensure efficient cleanroom operation within specified cleanliness levels. The OCP includes management of personnel, entry and exit of personnel and materials, cleaning, maintenance and monitoring. This document specifies operational requirements that relate to: —     providing a system that specifies policies and operational procedures for maintaining cleanliness levels; —     training of personnel; —     transferring, installing and maintaining stationary equipment; —     transferring material and portable equipment into and out of the cleanroom; —     maintaining a personnel management programme that includes a gowning programme; —     maintaining a cleaning programme that addresses special cleaning; —     maintaining a cleanroom maintenance programme; —     establishing an appropriate monitoring programme. This document gives additional information in annexes for: —     personnel management; —     gowning; —     training; —     cleaning. This document does not specifically address biocontamination control. For details on this topic, see ISO 14698-1 and ISO 14698-2. This document does not apply to the following topics: —     aspects of health and safety management that have no direct bearing on contamination control; —     specific requirements for individual industries; —     specific requirements for equipment and materials used or associated with processes and products; —     design details of equipment; —     cleaning agent compatibility with cleanroom materials.

The SN EN ISO 14644-5:2025 standard outlines the operational requirements for cleanrooms and controlled environments, published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). It serves to ensure the maintenance of cleanliness and operational integrity within controlled environments critical to various industries.

SECTION 1

Purpose and objectives

The primary objective of the SN EN ISO 14644-5:2025 standard is to provide a framework for managing cleanrooms and associated controlled environments effectively. This standard emphasizes the development of an Operations Control Program (OCP), which is essential for maintaining the required cleanliness levels and operational efficiency. By establishing clear operational requirements, the standard aims to enhance product quality, minimize contamination risks, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards across various industries, including pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and electronics.

SECTION 2

Scope: who must comply

The SN EN ISO 14644-5:2025 standard applies to organizations operating cleanrooms and controlled environments across several sectors. Key industries include:

  • Pharmaceuticals: where product sterility is critical.
  • Biotechnology: involving sensitive biological materials.
  • Electronics: where dust and particle control are paramount.

Compliance with this standard is essential not only for operational excellence but also for safeguarding health and safety in environments where contamination control is critical. Organizations must ensure adherence to the standard to minimize risks associated with biocontamination, thereby protecting both personnel and products.

SECTION 3

How SN EN ISO 14644-5:2025 relates to other standards

The SN EN ISO 14644-5:2025 standard is part of a broader framework of standards concerning cleanroom technology. Relevant standards include:

  • ISO 14644-1: focusing on the classification of air cleanliness in cleanrooms and controlled environments.
  • ISO 14698-1: which details the biocontamination control in cleanrooms.
  • ISO 14698-2: providing guidelines for monitoring biocontamination.

These standards complement each other by addressing different aspects of cleanliness and contamination control, ensuring a comprehensive approach to maintaining cleanroom integrity.

SECTION 4

Revision history and current status

The SN EN ISO 14644-5:2025 standard was published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in 2025, marking its most recent revision. This update incorporates feedback from industry stakeholders and reflects advancements in cleanroom technology and operational practices. Changes in this revision focus on enhancing the clarity of the Operations Control Program (OCP) guidelines and streamlining compliance requirements to better serve industries reliant on cleanroom environments.
